Growing Knowledge: Skill Development in the Production of Nursery Saplings for Local Farmers

From September 17, 2024, DDS Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Medak-1 (Sangareddy District), is conducting a specialized skill training program on Nursery Management aimed at empowering farmers with essential techniques. The five-day event provided hands-on training in preparing nursery land, and nursery beds, and applying manure for healthy seedling growth.

Farmers also learned how to prepare poly bags for fruit crops and fill protrays with media for vegetables, focusing on plant nutrition and protection techniques in shade net conditions.

In addition, live demonstrations were held on veneer grafting in mango, air layering in guava, and using cuttings in medicinal and aromatic plants. These practical sessions not only enhanced the participants' technical skills but also opened up new avenues for sustainable horticulture practices.

Led by G. Shailaja, SMS Horticulture, the training aimed to equip farmers with innovative nursery management techniques, offering them a pathway to better productivity and income generation. The program was a step forward in fostering agricultural growth in the region through knowledge sharing and hands-on experience.
